  • Assignment #5: Chapters 1-14

    • Keep adding two or three events per chapter to your plot line. Do not go beyond Chapter 14 as some students have not finished reading those chapters.
    • Write these events under assignment #4, highlighting the chapters and adding bullets for the events.
    • NEW ASSIGNMENT!!!
    • Look for pictures that reflect how you think each character looks. These can be current or past movie stars, current or past actors and/or actresses, or pictures you draw that reflect the images of the characters.
    • Create a collage with these pictures, putting the character's name under each picture. You can decide what materials to use for your collage. These will NOT be posted on the WIKI.
    • Be creative! Have fun with this assignment. It will be interesting to see how everyone pictures each character.

Nicole- Looks like you have a bit of work to do. This assignment should be finished by now, but since you were sick, you're a bit behind. If I can help you get caught up, please let me know. You can stay in at recess to work on this, too. Be sure and follow ALL the directions. You still have some linking to do because all of your pages are not linked. Mrs. M

how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?
  • how might the title be a clue to the story?

I think a narrative story is told by a stand point. The plot can be about anything. I like a mystery plot is almost always about a question or something you are trying to find an answer to.
It could be a clue for an example and then there were none is saying something like everyone that this book is about will die.

Hi Nicole-
You have a start; good job on linking your pages.
Other suggestions include the following:

  • check the title of the book and make corrections,
  • correct spelling errors on your post,
  • italicize the title when you write it in your answer,
  • correct run-on sentences and punctuation.
If you would like help with corrections, please let me know.

Assignment #2 (to be done in class on Wednesday, December 2)

  • Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
  • Read chapter two.
  • On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
Foreshadowing
Example1:Vera laughed again. "Oh, it's only temporary-a holiday post. I've got a permanet job at a girls' school. As a matter of face I'm frightfully thrilled at the prospect of seeing Indain Island . There's been such a lot about it in the papers. Is it really very fascinating?" Pg. 20
Example2:Rather doubtfully, Miss Brent permitted herself to be helped into the boat. Pg. 24
Example 3:Ten little Indain boys went out to dine; One chocked his little self and then there were nine. Nine little Indain boys sat up very late; one overslept himself and then there were eight. Eight little Indain boys traveling in Devon;one said hed stya there and then there were seven. Seven little indain boys chopping up sticks; One chopped himself in halves and then there were six. Six little Idain boys playing with a hive; a bumblebee stung one and then there were four. Four little Indain boys going out to sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were three. Three little Indain boys walking in the zoo; A big bear hugged one and then there were two. Two little indain boys sitting in the sun, one got frizzled and then there was one. One little Indain boy left all alone; he went and hanged himself and then there were none. PG. 31
Example4:"The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot he executeth: the wicjed is snared in the work of his own hands. The wicked shall be turned into hell" PG. 38

Example one is remanding me of foreshadowing is that shes saying that if she got fired she could go back to that job and its a steady hold up. In example two I think it is saying that she will need a lot of help in the future and getting on boats. For example three i put the poem because there are ten people in this house and by the end I think that they will all die and another hint is the title And then there were none. For the last example I put the passage from the Bible. I think this is going to be said a lot in the story.

Some good examples from the book, Nicole. Did you follow ALL the directions for the assignments? Check to make sure that assignments #2 and #3 are in the right spot.

Assignment #3: Chapter 3
  • Put a new line between assignment #2 and #3,
  • Copy the assignment to your page.
  • Add the date at the top of your page.
  • Add your answers to the TOP of your page under the date.
  • Choose five characters from the story,
  • Write two sentences telling what you know about him or her.
  • BOLD the character's name and write your sentences about that character right underneath his or her name.

Vera Elizabeth Claythorne- Vera was sent to this island because it said that she killed Cyril Ogilvie Hamilton. I also know that she works with children
Emily Brent- She is 65 years old. The voice said that she was responsible for the death of Beatrice Taylor.
Thomas Rogers- He brought death to Jennifeer Brady. He is married to Ethel.
Lawrence Wargrave-

Mr. Owen- He was wealthy and liked to sail. He said that he owned the Island
Mr. Justice Wargrave- justice smokes a cigar and is old and retired. He is also wealthy.
Nicole-

You've written good comments. Did you mean to put in the Lawrence Wargrave person? There's no explanation for him, so I wasn't sure what you meant by that.
